Filed under: Website Domains — by smalldetailsonline @ 10:00 am

The days are gone when .com used to be the only option when choosing a domain name for your business. There are now several different extensions to consider.

  • .com: The most popular of the domain extensions. Proven to help increase search engine visibility.

  • .info:  Indicates “informational” website. Useful for businesses, organizations and individuals.
  • .net:  Often used for company infrastructure. Purchasing the .net also helps protect your brand.
  • .org:  Popular choice for non-commercial organizations. Also used by businesses to promote their charitable activities.
  • .me:  Great for blogs and personal websites.
  • .mobi:  Created for mobile websites. Purchasing the .mobi domain also helps protect your brand.
  • .us:  Creates an online American identity.
  • .biz:  Designed for businesses and used most often for ecommerce websites.
  • .ca:  Official “top-level” domain extension for Canada.
  • .tv:  Ideal for multimedia websites or websites with a focus on television/video.
  • .ws:  Abbreviation for “web site”. Another alternative to .com.
  • .asia:  Great for connecting with the Asian market or for websites with an Asian theme.
  • .cc:  Top level domain of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
